Commercial Glass Service

Curtain Wall

Multi-story glazed facades that carry the whole building envelope, not just an opening. We design-assist, fabricate, and install curtain wall systems for Ohio offices, hotels, and commercial buildings, engineered to hold up against weather, wind load, and years of daily use.

Facades engineered for weather and wind load

Curtain wall is the glazed skin hung outside a building's structure — it carries no floor loads, but it does carry every gust of wind, driving rain, and swing in temperature the building sees for decades. That's a different engineering problem than a ground-level storefront, and it starts long before glass goes in: structural calculations, anchor design, thermal breaks, and water management all have to work together.

Atwood Glass has fabricated and installed commercial glazing across Ohio since 1994. On curtain wall projects we work design-assist alongside architects and general contractors from early plans through shop drawings, fabrication, and installation — one crew accountable for the system performing the way it was designed to.

What we handle

  • Design-assist — working with architects and GCs on system selection, sightlines, and performance requirements before bid.
  • Engineered fabrication — framing and glass built to the project's structural, thermal, and wind-load requirements.
  • Multi-story installation — low-rise office, hotel, and commercial facades installed on schedule with the rest of the building envelope.
  • Weather & energy performance — insulated and low-E glazing systems that seal tight and meet code.
  • Clean sightlines — mullion spacing and glass selection that keep the facade reading as one continuous plane.

Curtain wall vs. storefront

The two get confused because both are aluminum-framed glass systems, but they're built differently. Storefront systems are typically ground-level, span one to two stories, and rely on the floor slab below for support. Curtain wall spans multiple stories, is anchored to the building's structural frame at each floor, and is designed to move independently as the building expands and contracts. We build both — see our storefront systems page — and can help you figure out which one your project actually needs.

Common Questions

Curtain Wall FAQ

What's the difference between curtain wall and storefront?

Curtain wall spans multiple stories and anchors to the building's structural frame at each floor, designed to move independently as the building shifts. Storefront is ground-level, spans one to two stories, and sits on the floor slab. See our storefront systems page for that side of it.

Do you work directly with our architect or GC?

Yes. We regularly work design-assist on curtain wall projects, coordinating with architects and general contractors on system selection, shop drawings, and sequencing before and during construction.

Can curtain wall be repaired, or does it need full replacement?

Most curtain wall issues — failed seals, water infiltration, damaged panels — can be repaired in place. We assess the system first and only recommend section replacement when the framing or glazing itself has failed.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Mineral City in Tuscarawas County and work across Ohio — New Philadelphia, Dover, Canton, Massillon, Akron, and beyond. See our service area.

Planning a facade that performs?
